These fantastic little creatures will destroy Aiptasia in your reef aquarium. With enough Aiptasia available for them to eat, they will reproduce quickly on their own. Within a few months time, your tank will be completely free of Aiptasia.

Aiptasia is a common pest anemone that reproduces rapidly and can easily take over an entire tank, killing coral and irritating fish with their stinging cells. DO NOT attempt to manually remove aiptasia. When they are damaged, they release spores which will turn a small problem into a much bigger one very quickly. Some alternatives include spot treatment with special products, but this is a manual task that is not guaranteed to solve your problem.

Enter the Berghia Nudibranch - these nudibranchs grow up to 1.5" in size and only eat aiptasia. When their food source is depleted, they will die off harmlessly unless handed over to another hobbyist in need. They are difficult and costly to farm, not because they do not readily reproduce, but because they so rapidly destroy their own food source which makes aquaculture a labor-intensive task.

For best success, introduce 3-5 berghia per 10 gallons of aquarium volume. Berghia tolerate shipping well, but are physically fragile and sensitive to sudden swings in parameters. For this reason, it is important that you acclimate them over the course of 1-2 hours by gradually replacing the water in their shipping container with water from your aquarium. Introduce them with lights off to avoid predation and stress. Use a pipette to insert them into the crevice of a rock and do not release them directly into the water column. Ideally, place them close to aiptasia, but not directly on top of one. They will disappear into the rock work and come out to feed at night. Most predatory species of fish will eat them. Introducing them with the lights off or at night when fish are sleeping will give them the best chance of avoiding predators.

The Berghia you receive will be .5" or larger. Feel free to reach out about pricing for other quantities, but orders will have a minimum of 5. Berghia are pack hunters and need other berghia to reproduce.

DOA Policy: While it is unlikely that berghia perish during shipping, we will refund orders that suffer a complete loss. Take pictures and reach out within 1 hour of delivery if this is the case. For partial-DOA, we may issue a partial refund. Do not be alarmed if the berghia are slow at the start or appear to not be moving. When they are dead, they turn into a pile of jelly. They just need time to acclimate before becoming more active. Proper acclimation is very important which is why we cannot honor this policy for more than 1 hour after delivery.
